GE to Showcase X-ray Inspection Boosted by Advanced Flash! Filters™ Technology at IPC APEX 2014

LEWISTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA- January 27, 2014 - GE’s (NYSE: GE) Measurement & Control business will have a strong presence at IPC APEX Expo 2014, the world’s premier electronics event to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 25 - 27, 2014. GE will host APEX attendees in booth #246 in the Mandalay Bay Resort & Convention Center for a series of innovative demonstrations and discussions.

For the first time in the United States, participants can experience GE’s advanced Flash! Filters™ image optimization technology, which provides outstanding image enhancement during live inspection tasks. This innovative GE technology automates the filtering process of all grey scales - which are present in each X-ray image - to optimize contrast and brightness for the human eye, resulting in faster and more reliable identification of defects. In combination with GE’sadvanced DXR digital detector arrays installed in the GE phoenix microme|x and nanome|x systems, Flash! Filters™ technology leads to significant time savings and defect coverage improvements in electronics inspection.

Flash! Filters™ is an optional feature of GE’s powerful 2D electronics inspection software package, phoenix x|act. The package, available for manual or automated X-ray inspection, sets new standards in ease-of-use and excellence in X-ray inspection performance, while offering fast and easy CAD-based programming. The solution features improved modules for intuitive BGA inspection and voiding calculation in IC die attaches and area solderings in power electronics - even in irregular shaped regions of interest. These innovations allow new and unskilled operators to gain high-quality results after minimal training. Ease-of-use functions - such as sample manipulation, wizard-guided inspection modules for easy setup, instant and clear live-imaging, live Pad ID overlay for easy defect identification and automatic report generation - enable inspectors to reach a high defect coverage after very short inspection times.

Additionally, GE informs APEX participants about its next-generation phoenix x|aminer, which features significantly enhanced live imaging quality. The improved model is equipped with an alternative flat panel detector, helping to save time in failure analysis and process control in electronics manufacturing, incoming inspection and R&D - at an attractive price performance ratio.
